Electron Bolus (BolusECT®)

Bolus Electron Conformal Therapy, or BolusECT, is the use of a variable thickness electron bolus that is designed to shape the distal ~90% isodose line to conform to and contain the PTV. One side of the electron bolus fits to the patient skin surface, while the other side (the beam entry side) is optimized to produce a patient-specific 3D conformal electron dose.

The electron bolus uses “energy modulation” but is otherwise analogous to intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) with photon beams. Namely, it tailors the radiation dose to the specific tumor geometry, sparing underlying healthy tissue and critical structures. Our Materials
